Laura Hayman
Professor of NursingFor many years, the leading cause of death globally has been and remains cardiovascular disease (diseases of the heart and circulatory system, CVD). So, what are nurses doing about preventing and caring for those with cardiovascular disease? And who is leading the nursing charge tackling this vulnerability?
Today we are honoring a, if not the, professional nurse key in leading the effort against cardiovascular disease across the globe. Her name is Dr. Laura Hayman, Professor at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. Let’s look at the fruits of Dr. Hayman’s outreach initiatives:
With the concept that global problems need global cooperative remedies, Laura Hayman led her colleagues in the founding of the Global Cardiovascular Nursing Leadership Forum (GCNLF).
The mission of this forum is to engage and mobilize an international committee of nurse leaders to promote the prevention of CVD and stroke worldwide. GCNLF is a project of the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association (PCNA), the leading nursing organization in the United States dedicated to the prevention of cardiovascular disease and stroke. This impressive list features some of the prominent Liaison Organizations now working with the Global Cardiovascular Nursing Leadership Forum:
American Heart Association
African Heart Network American
Capital Medical University School of Nursing (China)
Health Policy Partnership (UK)
Japanese Cardiovascular Nursing Association
Manipal Academy of Higher Education (India)
The formation and advancement of GCNLF included the dedicated works of Kathy Berra, Barbara Fletcher, Nancy Miller, and Sue Koob. Sue joins us today as we honor Dr Laura L. Hayman, a 2023 Nurses With Global Impact Honoree.
Thank you, Dr Hayman, for leading a global nursing effort to prevent and counter cardiovascular disease.
